STRP Art & Technology Festival 2011
18 – 27. 11.11
Eindhoven, Netherlands

We recently visited the STRP FEST in Eindhoven the Netherlands. STRP Festival is one of the largest art & technology (e-culture) festivals in Europe, that fuses music art and technology.

The multidisciplinary program consists of projects by young game designers next to major works from the international art circuit and experimental live cinema next to successful pop artists and DJs. As well as interactive art, light art, robotics, concerts, DJs, theatrical and dance performances, experimental music, interviews, discussion, live cinema, films, lectures, video art, animation and workshops.

Our personal favorites of the week were:

German designer Markus Kayser who has built a 3D-printing machine that uses sunlight and sand to make glass objects in the desert.
Called The Solar Sinter, the device uses a large Fresnel lens to focus a beam of sunlight, creating temperatures between 1400 and 1600 degrees Celsius.

Rafael Rosendaal. His work researches the screen as a pictorial space, reverse engineering reality into condensed bits, in a space somewhere between animated cartoons and paintings.
His installations involve moving light and reflections, taking online works and transforming them into spatial experiences.
